Should we blame the group by its followers or what it stands for?

Hey everyone I’m back. I was on vacation with some of my family. I hope all of you are doing well and diving into the word of God. So today we start studying into Romans 3. This is going to be a longer post than normal possibly.

I’ve had plenty of discussions with people over the weeks and months. Some good, some bad and somewhere in between. But most of them over the current political climate of the United States and the world, along with the coronavirus chaos that’s happened this year.

When pointing out my views on the subject, I am always asked how I can believe what I believe when others that say the same thing are such hypocrites or are “racist” or “bigots”. They almost expect me to defend the people that are racist or bigots because they may have said something similar to me. Therefore they discredit what I say because of the others that agree slightly with me.

The problem is that with most people in the world, we for some reason discredit and hate on others because of the ‘followers’ of a certain ideology, but never actually debating the actual basis of the argument at hand.

For example with the coronavirus. I for one, believe it is something that can kill someone but the same way that the regular flu and I believe that it has been blown out of proportion completely. I say that it’s not as deadly as some make it out to believe since less than 1% is being killed by it and the ones that are being killed by it are the same ones that would die from any flu(the old and unhealthy). When I say that, for some reason, people want instantly attack me because I am either uncaring or discredit me because president Trump says things that are similar and expect me to start defending everything about him.

I don’t follow him too close really because honestly, I’m too busy studying and working and taking care of my house to be watching everything the politicians and trump do.

But this verse also got me thinking.

What then? If some did not believe, will their unbelief cancel God’s faithfulness? Absolutely not! God must be true, even if everyone is a liar, as it is written: That You may be justified in Your words and triumph when You judge. Romans 3:3-4

This is actually normal. People generally attack a certain group that believes a certain way because of the experience they’ve had with others that believe the same. Just like they expect me to defend everything trump and others have done, people also expect that I need to defend what other Christians did. Some people even go so far as to say that God isn’t real because of the terrible actions of some of his ‘followers’.

But this isn’t the case at all. Just because some Christians don’t live like Christ or even read the Bible, doesn’t mean that we should judge and hate on God for our incompetence. Just because some Christians fail him in big ways, doesn’t mean that God isn’t faithful and loving. If anything, it should be the opposite in that he is still willing to be there for that person that epically fails him.

It’s almost like hating on the whole police department for one criminal that got through or one cop that commits a crime. Wait, people are doing that. Well here we are. We need to learn to judge groups not on those that fail to live up to the groups standards but rather what the group stands for. The police stand for justice and protection of the weak and the Christians(true Christians and not cultural ones) stand for the truth of Gods word.

True Christians follow a God that is loving and is all powerful even though we fail him on a daily basis and we repent for it.

So don’t be surprised when people attack you for what you believe in God because of the actions of cultural Christians or even those that have fallen into sin and repented. People are doing that with everything. Also the world will hate you anyways when you stand up for what the Bible truly says eventually, so be strong and hold true to God and his faithfulness.
