Have you ever went to church and Jesus and God was the furthest from your mind? Or how about this. You ever come to church with anger, jealousy or even sin on your mind while you are at church? If you’re honest and like most average church goers that I’ve known then the answer is yes.
The Bible says we shouldn’t be this way and should clear our minds and hearts before we come to church.
“Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy way will be guilty of sin against the body and blood of the Lord. So a man should examine himself; in this way he should eat the bread and drink from the cup. For whoever eats and drinks without recognizing the body, eats and drinks judgment on himself. This is why many are sick and ill among you, and many have fallen asleep.”
1 Corinthians 11:27-30
Hcsb Bible.

Of course, if we are true believers then we should be trying to constantly run away from sin, whatever area that is in your life. Therefore we should try our best to get our minds on Christ and not on the things that are sinful.
Of course this passage is talking about the Lords supper specifically but it can be applied for the rest of the services as well. For in Matthew 5:24 says that one should resolve any conflict with others before you come to worship God. The reason being is so that all of your attention is on him and not broken up over multiple things. For God is truly God and requires all of your attention when you decide to come into his presence to worship.
He doesn’t want your leftovers or your religious repeated phrases but rather a pure confessed heart so that there isn’t anything between you and Gods’ relationship. The reason being is that sin distances us from God even if we have accepted God as our savior.
So before we you come to God and worship with others, find any sin in your life and say what it is, repent from it and bring it to God for forgiveness. If you don’t, it’s hypocritical and it tarnishes the reputation of the church. It also can bring judgement on your body and soul.
If you sin and repent then people are more likely to be forgiving towards you with multiple sins, but if you don’t, they’re more likely to bring the full hammer of their wrath and justice (depending on the sin) on you with no remorse.
So I ask you today? Do you come to Church with a repentant and pure heart or do you disrespect God and his presence by giving God only your leftovers of your attention and time. I hope and pray it’s the first one. I know I try my best to bring my best for God but I fail as well so I’m not speaking from a high pulpit but rather from the pew or chair next to you since I’m definitely perfect.
I hope you have a great day and if you have any questions or disagreements just comment below or message me and I’ll respond when I can.
A good post before Sunday!
