This will be my last post in this short series but I believe it’s been a great one where I have looked at myself and examined myself by the scriptures. I hope you have as well and will continue to do as you continue with this post and your own studies of Gods word. As you can see, today a true Biblical man is to be willing to sacrifice for his wife or family.
So what does this mean? In what areas should we be willing to sacrifice? Well to be honest, in every single area imaginable.
“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her to make her holy, cleansing her with the washing of water by the word. He did this to present the church to Himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or anything like that, but holy and blameless. In the same way, husbands are to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
Ephesians 5:25-28
Hcsb Bible

The Bible says for us men to be willing to love our wives as Jesus loves us and give himself for us. This means that we should be willing to love our wives with our entire being and willing to lay down our own lives to protect her and our families. Paul is calling out the inner warrior in all of us and tells us of the sacrifice that we will need to be ready for if and when the time comes. So be willing to lay down our lives for our wives and family.
Paul doesn’t stop there either. Not all of us are called to lay down our lives to protect our wives. All of us are called to protect our wives from sin and the evil things in this world. How do we do this? Well we first need to lead by example in our own lives before we try to lead our wives since it would be hypocritical for us to say she needs to live a standard that we ourselves aren’t willing to live.
This means that we will need to sacrifice our time with some of our friends that lead us to activities that are ungodly and any sins that we do on a regular basis no matter how big any of us think they are. We will need to sacrifice time to sleep for us to have time in the word of God.
Now this is not to say we will be perfect since we won’t be, but we can still lead and protect our wives and children in our imperfections.
When we fall, we can quickly ask for forgiveness to God and our families to show them that our God is a merciful and forgiving God and that a Godly person is humble enough to ask for forgiveness.
We also can help protect our families by leading them to people that will help guide them to a better relationship with God. We can do this by choosing a good church for them to go to, or by checking which friends they have( wives and children). Since their friends can be either constructive and bringing them closer to God or the opposite.
We also need to protect our families by leading them in prayer and our quiet time with the Lord. We need to show them how to study the word of God so they are ready to continue after you die or aren’t in their immediate lives anymore (such as you die early to protect them or the kids move out of the house.). This is done by making sure everyone is having time to read the Bible and you help guide them through it.
You don’t need to have a huge church service every night since it would be impractical for some and honestly, some peoples gifts aren’t in this area. While some are better suited to show how to live and study the Bible rather than teaching.
Of course there are multiple way that we can lead and protect and sacrifice for our families, but these are the ones that come to mind. These are areas that I too need to work on. For you, it may be a different area in your life that God is calling you to sacrifice for your family and ultimately for him as well.
So what’s your area that needs to be sacrificed and laid down to be a Godly man? What’s an area that’s in the way of you living the Godly upright life God is calling you to live? What’s an area that God is calling you to lay down to guide your wife and family since it is hindering you from doing so?

Praise God. What are you going over with your youth?

I was going over the Biblical view of relationships but everything shut down in the middle of it. So now I’m going over a verse of the day each day and expound on it as we do devotionals each day. The reason being that I’m teaching now young little kids and middle school/high school and going over relationships would be a little too serious for the kids that are maybe 3rd or 4th grade.

I think you made the right decision. Maybe a series on reading the Bible?
