Who do you know?

Who here is royalty? Ok, maybe not royalty, but are you related to someone that has a lot of power or a distant cousin of yours is a prince or princess? Ok. No to both questions. Well that’s ok, because most of us aren’t related to royalty. Since most of us aren’t royalty(or aren’t close enough that they remember us), let’s learn about someone that is.

So we all know that Jesus was the descendant of King David, but there is an important question after we find this out. Why is it important that he is the son(descendant) of King David?

Well to understand that question, we have to understand the system that kingship brings. It is very unlike the democracies and Republics(the United States is a Republic). In the kingship, the king has almost complete power and their power is believed to have been given to them by God himself. They made decisions on infrastructure, military campaigns, taxes, etc…. whereas in democracies, those decisions are made by the majority of the population, and the elected officials make those decisions in a republic.

The important thing is that, the line of succession is very key. The next king, had to be one of the sons(generally is the first born), of the king himself. It can’t be a cousin of the King, though there have been plenty of exceptions throughout history.

Also in 2 Samuel 7, God promises to David that he would keep his lineage alive and well enough in order to eventually have his kingdom laid down on the earth forever. In order to be the Savior, he had to be a descendant of King David. He ask so had to be the descendant so he could be the King of the Jews. It also says that he was the son of God. Son of a king and God, that’s awesome.

Also this is just something that I noticed a little, but Jesus is also the first born in the family of Mary and Joseph just like a lot of Kings are.

So when people ask you, who do you know? Just know, you know and follow a King, and God himself. We may not know many great and powerful people on earth, but we should are connected to a King. King of Kings.
