Everywhere you look, people are constantly wanting to change something about themselves or add something to themselves to improve. It could be by buying clothes to look good, working out in order to improve their bodies and physique, or even reading self help books on ways to deal with life’s problems. In any way, people are constantly wanting to change something about themselves. Either to impress other people or satisfy their own self doubts about themselves.
The problem with a lot of the changes that we take with ourselves is that they get destroyed or we lose them over time. If we get fit, we lose that physique within a few days or weeks. If we buy clothes to impress others, we may end up not liking them once we leave the store or they get destroyed over time by pets, accidents, etc… So the question is, how do we change for something that won’t go away or be destroyed over time?
“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vineyard keeper. 2 Every branch in Me that does not produce fruit He removes, and He prunes every branch that produces fruit so that it will produce more fruit. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in Me, and I in you. Just as a branch is unable to produce fruit by itself unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in Me.”
John 15:1-4Hcsb Bible
The answer to this is through the Holy Spirit that God gives us once we have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior. The fruits of the Spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. If we have the Holy Spirit and allow him to work on our lives then we will acquire these fruits of the Spirit. This will then change everything about us and help us with our everyday problems that we are constantly trying to change.
If you are having problems with your relationships, family, friends or romantic ones, then the fruit of love will help you show true selfless love to others which will help make sure you don’t have problems caused by your own mistakes. If you are depressed and feel conflicted all the time then the Holy Spirit can give you joy and peace. And the Holy Spirit can continue to change you for the better.
Now will you have a perfect life? No, but your focus won’t be on things of this world but rather on eternal things that don’t burn away. If your focus is not on you and your desires but rather God and his desires, then you will have the peace that you desire.
Now this means that you will have to let the Holy Spirit work in your life and not do just what you want. You will have to give up control to God that created everything and is all powerful and all knowing and so therefore knows what’s best for you.
