Hey everyone, I hope y’all are all doing great. So a lot of people during this time, have lost jobs, family members, relationships, etc…. and to be honest, it can suck. It’s just a fact of life that sometimes as Christians, we will lose things and people that meant a lot to us. So what do we do though?
5 “But now I am going away to Him who sent Me, and not one of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’ 6 Yet, because I have spoken these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. 7 Nevertheless, I am telling you the truth. It is for your benefit that I go away, because if I don’t go away the Counselor will not come to you. If I go, I will send Him to you. 8 When He comes, He will convict the world about sin, righteousness, and judgment: 9 About sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 about righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will no longer see Me; 11 and about judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.”
John 16:5-11
Hcsb Bible

So imagine the situation, there apostles have been following Jesus for about 3.5 years and been with them pretty much 24/7. After literally being in the presence of God for that long, Jesus is now saying that they are going to lose him and that, would be for the better. So as you’re imagining that, think of your closest friend that you’ve been friends with for years saying the same thing, or even your mom or dad. That’s the situation these apostles found themselves in.
Now of course, Jesus had told them that he would leave and die before and they had worried about it. But they always were more worried about themselves and not wondering where Jesus would go or about him as said in verse 5. They would ask who would be on his right side in heaven, ignore his statement or assume he would set his kingdom on earth first.
In any case, if their thoughts were worried about themselves or on Jesus, they still followed and loved him. So to hear him say that his leaving would be for their advantage would sound ridiculous at first, but it wasn’t.
After Jesus left, the Holy Spirit lives in them on the day of Pentecost, and on that day, they brought more to the saving grace of Jesus Christ than Jesus himself ever did in recorded in the gospels. They would also heal the sick and crippled. They would do more for the kingdom of God after Jesus died and left for heaven than when he was physically here on earth. They would also learn more afterwards and be reminded of Jesus’s words after he left.
Now am I saying that in every situation that you lose something or someone that you will get something better? No I am not. I am saying that God can take something away from you for your good and give you something better.
There have been songs talking about relationships that ended that led to the one relationship that they were destined and love to have. Even though I may have like one or two of my ex girlfriends in the past(I don’t say love since I now know that it wasn’t), if I had stayed in those relationships, I would have never met and got married to my wife. The one I’m supposed to be with. She is truly better for me than any other girls I have ever met.
God may take or tell you to leave something or someone so that you can have something better. It could be your addiction to Pornography for a fulfilling relationship with Jesus. It could be a job so could get a better one. It could honestly a million things that God can take and give you something better.
It may not seem it at the time and people will fight to the death sometimes to keep what they think is a good thing. They will then not know what’s in store for them. In all honesty, it’s what happens when an unbeliever rejects Gods love for their sinful lives. The question you have to ask yourself is “are you ready for better?”
