Who is your master?

Hey everyone. I hope y’all are all having a great day as we approach the half way point in May of 2020. The title may have thrown you for a loop but it is a question that we need to answer. Someone or something does own you and I.

You may be thinking that someone owning someone else is completely unbiblical but in fact, Jesus himself and the rest of Gods word repeatedly says that we are slaves to someone else.

6 “I have revealed Your name to the men You gave Me from the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. 7 Now they know that all things You have given to Me are from You, 8 because the words that You gave Me, I have given them. They have received them and have known for certain that I came from You. They have believed that You sent Me. 9 I pray for them. I am not praying for the world but for those You have given Me, because they are Yours.”

John 17:6-9

Hcsb Bible

So for those that don’t know Christ, they are slaves to sin and to Satan himself as seen in John 8:34. Now as an unbeliever you may be thinking that no one owns me and never will. But have you ever met someone that repeatedly does something wrong or something that they know will be bad for them? Such as repeating the same sin(mistake) that will bring harm to them. These mistakes could be drinking alcohol more and more even after they were told by their doctor that they are starting to die because of it, or they continue to cheat even though they know it will destroy their relationships, or lying to anyone when they know it causes others not to trust them. Of course there are multiple mistakes that some people catch themselves in that they just can’t escape from, but these are just a couple.

As said in John 8, those that sin and sin willingly are slaves to sin and they therefore feel like they can’t fight it. It causes them to go down a hole that never ends well. But there is a better master that we can have.

That new and better master is God the father himself and Jesus here is referencing them. God owned the disciples that Jesus was praying about and Jesus acknowledges this when he says that they are his and that they gave them to him to disciple while on earth.

If you want to not be a slave to sin, then all you have to do is acknowledge your sin and know Jesus is the only way to heaven and accept him as your Lord and Savior. Now I’ll be honest, if you want to have God as your master, you will have to abandon your previous master which is Satan and sin. This means that you can’t just sin anytime you want but rather want to give it all up for him.

If you do, you will abandon your sin and have a guaranteed entrance into heaven after we die. So I plead with you that you accept his free gift. If you do, you will have a family with God and his children(true Christians).

If you have any questions or disagreements just comment below or message me and I’ll respond when I can. Thank you for reading.

Just an average guy that loves Jesus, football and wanting to learn more about God everyday. I post my devotions and lessons on here to gather my thoughts together. So if I make a mistake, tell me and if you know places where I can learn more, tell me that too. I hope y’all have a great day.
