Stay unified.

So there is a lot of information going around in the world right now. Especially when it comes to this coronavirus and how we should continue. The question to either start opening up or to stay on lockdown has divided more people than it should and when I say divided, I mean badly. They aren’t just arguing and then going about their business and staying friends. They are actually ending friendships right now and speaking terribly of each other.

Now these people aren’t unbelievers that are fighting and speaking foul of each other over an important. These are self proclaimed Christians that have decided to end friendships and posted on social media that if one of their friends want to reopen or stay in lockdown that they should unfriend them.

Of course there are unbelievers fighting over this too but since this passage will be over Jesus praying for believers in the future which is us now, this is addressed solely to the true believer right now.

Jesus tells us that we should try and be one as he and the father and the Holy Spirit are one.

21 “May they all be one, as You, Father, are in Me and I am in You. May they also be one in Us, so the world may believe You sent Me. “

John 17:21

Hcsb Bible

Now being one in the trinity would require that they should love each other and be there for each other as we should be. Being a part of the trinity also requires that they be unified in their message as we should be. So what is our message? That the world and everyone in it has fallen and needs to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. That way they accept the free gift and experience Gods love.

So when Jesus is praying here for our unity, he actually points to the fact that people may come to be saved by our actions and the way we treat each other and stay unified. If we are truly followers of Jesus and the great love that he gives, then shouldn’t we be different than the unbelievers that haven’t been shown that great love.

Shouldn’t that great love show us how to love and stay unified with each other?

Now I’m not saying that we shouldn’t confront heresy or sin when we see it or not to debate over great and important subject. What I’m saying is, have those heart filled and passionate debates in private and in public but know that the other person may be Christian and we need to keep that line of communication open so that we can edify and build each other up instead of cutting it off and never talking again.

Now you may be saying that this is an important issue and that we need to be unified over it. Well you are right that it is important but it isn’t the key issue of the gospel and how do we show an united front? We keep lines of communication open between each other and possibly the brother or sister in Christ comes back to the right side depending on the issue.

I’ve heard of churches splitting over the worship music and the color of the new carpet unfortunately. So the divisive attitude is in a lot of people.

So really if you take anything from this, take this. When discussing small and great issues, have passionate debates but talk in love and respect to show unity in spirit. We can disagree on some issues but the one that we need be unified on is the gospel of Jesus Christ and that same love that lives in us. We show the world by how we love each other even when we disagree on certain issues that are not central to the faith.

If you have any questions or disagreements, comment below or message me and I’ll respond when I can. Maybe I can learn something and possibly write better along the way. I hope y’all have a great day.

Just an average guy that loves Jesus, football and wanting to learn more about God everyday. I post my devotions and lessons on here to gather my thoughts together. So if I make a mistake, tell me and if you know places where I can learn more, tell me that too. I hope y’all have a great day.
