What are you sacrificing?

Throughout life, there will be many sacrifices that we make for various reasons. We all do them because we value something or someone above the other option.

Some examples are that we sacrifice the money we have earned for the car or house we bought and the time spent associated with that money. We also make sacrifices for when we decide to either pursue a relationship with someone. We value the companionship more than the freedom that comes with singleness.

It also dives into the way we spend our money and this one might hurt a few people. For some people, they may view earning money more important than the relationships they have. It shows up when they choose to go into work when they don’t have to at expense of quality time with their spouse or family. Of course I know that sometimes in life we need to work more so that we can set our families up better for the future or to get out of debt but I’m referring to when people choose to go into work when they aren’t being coerced or need to at expense of their relationships.

In any case, there are plenty of examples of how we sacrifice something or someone at the expense of another. The same happens with our life with Christ.

Therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:1-2

Hcsb Bible

This small passage is building off of the old traditions and laws of the Old Testament that required sacrifices. Back in the Old Testament, God required our very best lambs, ox, sheep, etc… which translates to our money, time and resources today. They sacrificed to show their honor, respect and love for God by the offering they gave. They were required to give the best. They chose to honor God at the expense of possibly getting more money on the market if they had kept that best ox, sheep, ram or whatever they had.

Just like them, we are supposed to give our best to God as followers of Christ. We aren’t supposed to give what’s left of our time, money or resources. We are supposed to give off the top and give our best.

We are supposed to sacrifice our wants for his wants because in reality, his wants are what is best for us anyways. Are we giving our best and sacrificing for God or are we choosing to spend more time with entertainment or pleasure instead of diving into his holy word? Are we giving the 10% we have or the 10 dollars that we forgot was in our wallet/purse? Are we choosing his honor or are we choosing peers praise?

Are we choosing eternal plans or present events? Deep relationship with God vs temporary friendships. In every choice of life, there is going to be a sacrifice of something or someone to an extent. What are we sacrificing? Are we sacrificing God on the cross or our lives for God?

I hope everyone has had a good time. My apologies for being gone for a little bit, it’s been a very interesting time the past couple months.

Just an average guy that loves Jesus, football and wanting to learn more about God everyday. I post my devotions and lessons on here to gather my thoughts together. So if I make a mistake, tell me and if you know places where I can learn more, tell me that too. I hope y’all have a great day.

    1. No. It was a mix of a few things between a little busier at work, extremely discouraged in my ministry and had to start really looking for a second job since my hours are about to be cut at my main one. Thanks for asking though.

    1. I’m able to provide for us. I’m fine in that regard. Pray for my church. Our pastor just resigned a couple weeks ago and we are selling the church. We’re not sure if we are going to just disband and look for other churches to join or find another place to have service. There are a lot questions that the church and I don’t have the answers to.
